Transitional Tarrytown Home

When seeing this home for the first time "Old Hollywood" screamed at me. That is what we used as the point of entry for our design work. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. Photo Credit: Allison @ Twist Tours

Nervous that the traditional wrought iron railing would look too "country" in this home, I chose to use mixed metals throughout the house, including the brass mirror below the bronze light that you see here. By doing this it completely modernized the feel of the traditional home. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. Photo Credit: Allison @ Twist Tours

The client already had the stunning 1960's upright piano. Because of his love of music, I wanted it to be seen as soon as you walk in the door, but also stationed in the living room for gatherings with all of his musician friends - hence the placement just off the entryway. But it really all came together when I found the beautiful piece of artwork, by local Austin artist, John Peralta. The deconstructed trumpet hangs perfectly in a framed shadow box, lined with LED lights that can change colors based on your mood. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. Entertaining and dinner parties are are frequent occurrences in this single, lobbyist's home. So the dining room needed to be both elegant and functional. The client already owned the colorful, modern oil painting of a horse, so that was the color palate I worked with when designing this room. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. The room needed some personality along with a sophisticated look, so I picked comfortable dining chairs, that people could sit and converse at for hours during a meal that featured a sexy black leather front, and an exotic zebra wood back. The dining set sat upon a modern cowhide diamond patterned rug. But, in fear that the room would be too masculine, I added a beautiful crystal chandelier and tall silver candlesticks to balance out the space. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. The dining Room was given a personal touch with "Pup Portraits" I commissioned of his beloved Golden Retrievers. I worked with the Client to pick the perfect "bodies" for his dogs' heads to best showcase their personalities. Then, I worked with the Artist to choose the proper coloring for the portraits that would compliment the existing oil painting in the room. Finally, I added ornate frames with personalized gold nameplates to each portrait. "Master Bailey" "Miss Sydney" "Sir Winston" Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. I modernized this traditional living space by using contemporary colors for the velvet sofas, a stunning silk rug and modern prints. I custom made the chandelier, giving it a modern feel by hanging iron chains from the bronze base, alongside Swarovski Crystal. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. The custom chandelier gave the room a more modern feel with the use of mixed metals - iron chains hung from a bronze base, alongside stunning Swarovski Crystal. Also, we chose a cocktail table that functioned together as one piece, but could also break out into ten different pieces to be used through the home during large gatherings and parties. The steel frame surrounding the crisp blue colors in Peter Lik's wave print also helps modernize and otherwise very traditional room. Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC. Photo Credit: Allison @ Twist Tours

I utilized the Client's existing traditional bedroom set in this guest room, but added contemporary touches like leather drawer pulls, copper accent pieces, the American flag printed on aluminum, alongside sheer and velvet curtains with leather tie-backs Designed by Katy Dickson Designs, LLC.
